Graphite Electrodes
Artificial Graphite Electrodes
Supporting Steel Production and Contributing to a Sustainable Society
Artificial graphite electrodes are consumable components used in electric arc furnace(EAF) to melt steel scrap for production of steel.
EAF process emits less CO₂ than blast furnace(BF) process, thereby contributing to carbon neutrality.
- Commitment to Advanced Technology and High Quality
- Extensive Global Sales Network

About the Product
About
What Are Artificial Graphite Electrodes?
Artificial graphite electrodes are manufactured by baking and graphitizing coke derived from petroleum or coal at high temperatures. They are highly heat-resistant and show excellent electrical conductivity.
Applications
Artificial graphite electrodes are used as electrical conductors in EAF for melting steel scrap. They generate high-temperature arcs to efficiently melt the scrap. High electrical conductivity and thermal resistance are essential to ensure long-lasting performance in such applications.
Differences Between BF and EAF
- BF
-
BF has long been the primary facility for mass production of steel and symbolic for traditional steelmaking. In this method, iron ore(iron dioxide) is chemically reduced by carbon monoxide generated from the combustion of coke inside the furnace to produce iron.
- EAF
-
EAF melt steel scrap using high-temperature arc discharges to produce steel. EAF is suitable for small-scale production as it is batch-type process.
Advantages of EAF
- Reduction in Energy Consumption
-
When powered by renewable energy sources, EAF can significantly reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
- Reduction in CO₂ Emissions
-
The amount of CO₂ emitted by EAF is said to be approximately one-fourth of BF, which use iron ore and coke as primary raw materials. As a result, many countries are intending to shift from BF to EAF to reduce CO₂ emissions.
