Our History

Since our founding in 1934, SEC CARBON has grown alongside the changing times.

1934

Oct.

Founded Showa Electrode Co., Ltd. with a capital of 2 million yen.

Head office(1937)
1935

Mar.

Started operation of Naruo(Nishinomiya) Plant.

1945

Jun.

Got all plants burned due to war.

1946

Feb.

Restored the plants and started the production of Artificial Graphite Electrodes.

1962

Apr.

Started the production of large-diameter electrodes of 24 inches.

1963

Jun.

Operations at the Nishinomiya Plant (renamed from the Naruo Plant in 1971) were discontinued.

Aug.

Head Office relocated to Misono-cho, Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture.

Oct.

Relocation from the Nishinomiya Plant to the Kyoto Plant (Fukuchiyama City, Kyoto Prefecture) was completed. Full-scale operations commenced at the new facility.

1984

Jun.

Completion of large-scale electrode machining line (capable of handling up to 28 inches)

Jul.

Changed company name to SEC Corporation.

Nov.

Listed on the Second Section of the Osaka Stock Exchange.

1986

Dec.

Merged with Kyowa Carbon Co., Ltd.

Dec.

New grinding and classification system installed; fine powder production and sales launched.

1992

Sep.

Started the operation of Okayama Plant (Saidaiji).

Completion of large-scale electrode machining line (capable of handling up to 30 inches)

1994

Jan.

Gained ISO9002 accreditation for Kyoto Plant.
Recognized by Pechiney (now Rio Tinto), a global leader in aluminum smelting technology, our cathode blocks became a global standard.

1998

Sep.

Stopped the operation of Okayama Plant (Ushimado).

1999

Dec.

Gained ISO14001 accreditation for Kyoto Plant.

2002

Mar.

Renewed ISO 9001 for Kyoto Plant.

2006

Oct.

Changed company name to SEC CARBON, LIMITED

2009

Jan.

Head office relocated to its current location in Shioe, Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture.

Oct.

Supplied our special carbon products for the neutrino oscillation experiment facility at J-PARC.

2011

Nov.

Constructed a dedicated production facility for graphitized cathode blocks for aluminium smelting (SK-BR) at the Kyoto Plant.

Jul.

Listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange following the integration of the cash equity markets of the Tokyo and Osaka Stock Exchanges.

Made I’MSEP CO., LTD. a subsidiary.

Transitioned from the Second Section to the Standard Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange following the market reorganization.
